We would ask manager to give us a user license each. The main reason I want premium is for custom fields and unlimited boards (just to avoid having to go into settings of every board to move workspaces instead of being able to do that from the boards interface). Thanks and any help with figuring this out is appreciated. But is there no way, for me only, to use some more premium features like custom fields, without paying for premium for the entire community of researchers I work with? Can I invite outsiders to my board if I have premium for my own workspace? Can I do this without paying for them? I don't really understand this per user billing. I don't really understand how it works so I have currently stayed at the free tier, and invite people to a new or empty workspace whenever I start a new collaboration.

Take professional, I would, out of my own salary, need to pay $500 a month to use Trello with my various collaborators if I decide on a professional subscription? Is it even possible to continue this workflow for modern Trello? Or do I need to create a team for each collaboration I get involved in, and pay Trello licenses for them, which of course is not covered by my institution. I currently have maybe 20-30 such boards, and they usually last from a few months to 1-3 years. It's mostly used for my own project management use case, but it's nice to have as a reference. They may not even look at the board more than once. In the past, I would create a board, invite them, and I could use some of my nice features from Trello Gold such as a custom field. So let's say I am at a conference and meet 3 people who want to work on a project together. I normally make a Trello board for each project I am workin on. I am a researcher and I work with maybe 50-100 different people, but none of them are in my team and they are at a few dozen organizations spread around the world.
